UPDATE: 21 Nov 2012

The company responded to my inquiry about the speaker and told me that the speaker is a monaural and not stereo speaker. While I presumed that, I was not sure and wanted to be able to post the correct information here. Inspite of that, the speaker provides amazing sound. One other piece of information, while there is not a serial number on the unit, there is apparently a serial number on the packaging that the speaker comes in. So, DO NOT DISCARD your packaging before copying down the serial number of the unit!!

REVIEW:

I asked for this item because I thought it would be nice to see how far wireless speakers have come with Bluetooth capability. I was not really expecting much from the speakers, just hoped for high enough quality to be able to listen to podcasts while in the garage.

The speaker arrived and it both impressed and frustrated me with the packaging and the weight. The packing is heavy weight plastic and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bluetooth speaker in its price range, December 8, 2012

In my quest for a Bluetooth speaker, I found one by a.m.p (Antec Mobile Products). I recognized the Antec name having built computers for a while so I decided to give the SP1 a shot based on my previous experience with their cases and power supplies.

Having used it for several weeks now, I have to say that I'm more than satisfied with this buy because of the speaker's quality and price. The sound is clear and the volume is ample. I use it with my phone and iPad and my music, movie, and gaming experience is much better with the improved sound. It's hard to believe that such good sound can come out of a unit at this price.

I've used the SP1 in my room, kitchen, office, and outdoors. The rubberized exterior makes the unit easy to hold and carry. I get really good range with it (even beyond what the manual states) but once in a while I'll experience some breakup. However, this happens with every Bluetooth unit - even the most... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Portable music that is loud, clear, and good battery life., December 9, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I own the SP1 and Jawbone Jambox. The SP1 has louder sound and bigger punch than the Jawbone hands down. However, the Bluetooth connectivity on the SP1 is not as good as the Jawbone. The SP1 works best when there is a direct line of sight to/from the sound source (I'm using an iPhone 4s).

SP1 pros:
Louder and bigger punch than Jawbone that sells for $130+
Looks great
Good price

Cons:
Bluetooth connectivity needs direct line of sight so audio is not disrupted
No option to turn off the on/off sounds that play when switching unit on/off
Speaker phone/mic option is not very loud and difficult to hear on both ends w/ minor lag

I hope Antec can improve the SP1 with future firmware upgrades. Otherwise, I am happy with the purchase, the product does what I want and does it well at a very reasonable price point. Portable music that is loud, clear, and good battery life.
